Frequently Ask Questions

Is Oasis Well Drill Rig Rental a drilling company?

No we just provide the components needed to drill your well.

How to Plan a Well?

Consider the costs and benefits of drilling a well. Drilling vs. piping or shipping water in.

Drilling a well has initial cost that are higher than connecting a public water supply. Risks include not locating water, locating a sufficient supply, accruing the ongoing costs to pump the water and maintain the well.

However, due to regulations and restrictions some residents may wait years before connecting to a public water supply. When you consider the costs, risk factors and restrictions renting a well drill is a viable option.

How to determine the location where the well will be drilled?

You'll need to know the section, township, range and quarters to access land and well records through your state's geological survey or from your State Watermaster. Oasis can conduct an Electromagnetic (EM) Survey to investigate shallow and deep sub-surface hydrogeology.

How to find out what previous wells have been drilled on the property or area?

Geological survey records or state well drilling reports will record the depths of previous wells in the area and whether or not they found water. You can access these records in person, by telephone or online here .These records can help you determine the depth of the water table, as well as the location of any confined aquifers.

Most aquifers are at the depth of the water table; these are called unconfined aquifers, as all the material above them is porous. Confined aquifers are covered by nonporous layers, which, although they push the static water level above the top of the aquifer, are more difficult to drill into.

How to consult geologic and topographic maps?

Although less useful than well-drilling records, geologic maps can show the general location of aquifers, as well as the rock formations in an area. Topographic maps show the surface features and their elevations and can be used to plot well locations. Together, they can determine whether an area has sufficient groundwater to make drilling a well viable.
Water tables are not uniformly level, but follow ground contours to some extent. The water table is nearer the surface in valleys, particularly those formed by rivers or creeks, and is harder to access at higher elevations.

What to ask people who live near the property?

Many older wells have no documentation, and even if records exist, someone who lived nearby may remember how much water those wells produced.

Can I get assistance from a consultant?

Your state's geological survey personnel may be able to answer general questions and direct you to resources beyond those mentioned here. If you need more detailed information than what they can provide, you may need the services of a professional hydrologist.

Contact local well drilling companies, especially ones that have been established for a long time.

A 'Dowser' or 'Water Witcher' is a person who uses willow branches, brass rods or similar items to search for water. If you want, you might employ one to help you find a good site.

How to get a well-drilling permit?

Consult the appropriate municipal and state agencies to find out what permits you need here.

Can I drill my own water well in Arizona?

The State of Arizona requires anyone attempting to drill a well to file for a Notice of Intent. As stated by the Department of Water Resources: "Prior to drilling a new well, or deepening or modifying an existing well, a Notice of Intent to Drill must be filed with ADWR.

Why Renting a drill rig instead of buying one.

Cost Savings: Renting a drill rig can be more cost-effective in the short term compared to purchasing one outright. You avoid the upfront capital investment required for buying a rig, which can be substantial, especially for high-quality equipment. Renting allows you to allocate your financial resources elsewhere, such as towards project expenses or other equipment needs.

Flexibility: Renting provides flexibility in terms of equipment usage. You can rent different types of drill rigs based on the specific requirements of each project without being tied down to a single rig. This flexibility allows you to adapt to changing project needs and explore various drilling methods or technologies without committing to a long-term investment.

Maintenance and Repairs: When you rent a drill rig, the responsibility for maintenance and repairs typically lies with the rental company. This can save you time, effort, and money that would otherwise be spent on servicing and repairing the equipment. Rental companies often have dedicated maintenance teams to ensure that the equipment is in good working condition, minimizing downtime and disruptions to your project.

Access to Latest Technology: Renting a drill rig gives you access to the latest technology and equipment advancements without having to purchase new rigs regularly. Rental companies frequently update their fleets to offer state-of-the-art equipment, allowing you to benefit from improved efficiency, safety features, and performance enhancements without the upfront cost of purchasing new equipment.

Avoid Depreciation: Equipment depreciation is a significant consideration when buying a drill rig. By renting, you avoid the depreciation associated with owning equipment, which can help preserve your company's assets and improve financial stability. Additionally, you can write off rental expenses as operating costs, potentially providing tax benefits.

Short-Term Projects or Seasonal Needs: Renting is particularly advantageous for short-term projects or seasonal drilling needs. Instead of investing in a rig that may sit idle for extended periods, you can rent the equipment for the duration of the project and return it when the work is complete, saving money on storage, maintenance, and depreciation during idle periods.

Testing and Evaluation: Renting allows you to test different drill rigs from various manufacturers before making a purchasing decision. This hands-on experience can help you assess the performance, reliability, and suitability of different rigs for your specific applications, ensuring that you make an informed investment when the time comes to buy.

Overall, renting a drill rig provides cost savings, flexibility, access to technology, maintenance convenience, and other benefits that can make it a practical choice for many drilling projects, especially for those with variable or short-term needs.
